Rukhe Neelofer Zaidi

Pakistani artist Rukhe Neelofer’s mural honours Maria Grazia Cutuli, a courageous Italian journalist who championed education in Afghanistan before being murdered by the Taliban. The artwork depicts Maria’s house, its doorway glowing with light to symbolise hope and knowledge, while children play outside and, to the left, the school run by the Maria Foundation Trust stands as a testament to her legacy. Neelofer’s wider artistic practice is rooted in mindfulness and emotional release, using colour, form, and texture to reflect inner struggle and renewal. Having shifted from human subjects to nature, she now paints serene, intricate scenes that embody freedom and hope amid social and political turmoil.
