Murales “Carciofi Spinusi” – A Wild Tribute to Graniti

After spending a day walking through Graniti and speaking with its residents, the artist recognised how deeply food is woven into Sicilian identity — a subject of conversation before, during, and after every meal. Inspired by this connection, the mural pays homage to the wild artichoke, Carciofo Spinusu, a resilient and sculptural plant that grows freely along the hills and roadsides surrounding the town. During its season, locals harvest and prepare it with care, often enjoying it simply with olive oil, salt, wine, and good company. By depicting the plant on a monumental scale, the artist draws attention to its overlooked beauty and significance, honouring its strength and the vital role it plays in both the natural and cultural landscape of Graniti. The mural stands as a celebration of the wild things that nourish us, the daily rituals that unite communities, and the enduring bond between nature and humanity.
