The mural, titled “Unless you become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven,” draws from the Gospel of St Matthew and serves as both a tribute to Italy’s rich artistic and cultural heritage and a reflection on the tensions between past and future, tradition and innovation. By depicting a father with a newborn child instead of the traditional Madonna and Child, the artist reimagines religious iconography to address the modern crisis of masculinity and the need to reshape patriarchal ideals with compassion and balance. The work also explores the spiritual meaning of St Matthew’s words — that entry into paradise requires rediscovering the innocence, humility, and openness of childhood. Symbolically, the child represents purity of heart, spontaneity, and playfulness — universal qualities celebrated not only in Christianity but also in Taoism, Buddhism, and Sufism as essential to spiritual awakening and human renewal.
