The first project I created in Graniti reflects my approach to working, learning, and living, while also conveying the importance of coexistence, respect for others, and care for nature and the environment. In my work, I use birds as a metaphor for how we relate to different places. The swallows, common in Sicily and often seen darting through the streets of Graniti with swift, playful movements and distinctive songs, became my central motif. During my first days in the town, I explored its steep streets and quiet corners, captivated by its weathered walls and the calm rhythm of daily life. I painted groups of swallows along the routes I walked each day, their movements guiding viewers through the town and converging at a meeting point in the centre. This act of walking, observing, and painting mirrors how I come to know a place and adapt to it. The second part of the project, on the road leading to the Feo Pub, features a mural depicting six stages of a swallow’s flight, arranged along an ascending wall. Placed high above the town, it invites discovery — reminding us that to see and understand truly, we must move, explore, and engage with our surroundings.
